Original 1858 Hardee "Jeff Davis" hat, issued and worn, yet never adorned with the insignia of any branch of service. Rare in any degree, yet alone without any punctures from brass or indication that it was reissued or sent to Bannermans by the government for resale. This hat was most certainly issued and worn, possibly by one of the Western troops who would have worn it proudly without putting any brass on it. Label inside reads "U.S. ARMY EXTRA MANUFACTURE [size] 4". Very rare.
