Complete US M1855 cartridge box, sling and plates, with provenance that it came directly from Dr. Francis A. Lord's personal collection. Dr. Lord is famous for compiling the "Civil War Collector's Encyclopedia". Stamped on the inner flap of the box is "Longley & Co / Lewiston, ME / 1862. A very rare contractor, with an early war date. No tins are present. Both plates are slightly bent on one side each, and there is a slight tear on the side of the sling, but otherwise the leather is pliable, stable, and the piece overall displays very nicely. A rare early war example from a prominent collection.
