This US cavalry shell jacket was most certainly issued and saw some field use during the war, and not a common Bannerman surplus item you see on the market. Slight wear on the jean cloth liner, indicating use in the field. Sleeves shortened at the cuff to suit the fit of the wearer. All buttons present, 2 on the right side collar are period replacements. Some seams at the shoulders and back of collar are a bit loose, but these are an easy fix for a novice seamstress/ tailor or conservationist.
